| Helloooo sexy ladies! I have a question - when I used to go to the hairdressers I would get a small section of hair bleached to blonde under my fringe-ish area so that I was able to dye it lots of random colours for fun. Kind of like this I suppose - With the little underneath sections so that it would peep through my natural hair (which is dark brown). Is there any way this is achievable at home? I was thinking one of those garnier/whatever highlight kits with the little brushes and just doing that on the one section? I really dont wanna fuck up my hair and have it fall out but at the same time my hairdresser costs a standard £25 to get 'pieces' and seeing as its just a couple-of-inches section of hair it kinda seems like a rip off! So yeah, advice pleasseeee from all you hair girlies!! I have access to boots (big drug store) and sally's close by so preferably something i can get from there! Thanksss!! | |

| Try going to your usual hairdresser and asking for an appointment with a trainee. Usually like the tenth of the cost, it's cheap for you, attended to by a highly qualified stylist and your helping someone out!
If not, you can bleach it yourself, though it is risky. What colour is your hair atm? i wouldn't know what drugstore bleach to use, but you won't want to use anything with too high a developer so something from sally's might be best. As foils would be too hard to acheive on your own it's be best to just section off the part you want and paint the bleach on.
Like i said, you are best going to a pro, bleach is such risky stuff, i'd be scared to use a home kit, but if you are going to do it at home, make sure you get the right strength for your hair colour and check it regularly whilst it's on.
EDIT just noticed you said your hair is dark brown - try using a 9% or 30vol developer, it will take time to lift, but keep checking it and feeling it to make sure it dosen't start feeling candyflossy. It probably won't lift up to a very creamy blonde so if you want it to be a nice blonde maybe pick up a toner or a toning conditioner (a pruple toned one, redken do one called Pure Pearl which is great but i think you can get a john frieda one which my mum likes haha) but if your planning on putting other colours on it you won't need to tone it!

| Ohhhh thanks toon!! Seriously that's the hugest help ever. I'm printing this out as we speak and tomorrow I'm gonna go for a wonder to sallys and see if I can find some 9% developer.
Candyfloss hair sounds terrifying! Eeepp!

| heyy, sorry its taken an age to get back! the hair bleaching was a sucess though sallys was shut when i went to buy bleach so i took a trip to boots to see if they had one of those 'subtle highlight' kits or whatever! but couldnt find anything that looked right. i ended up buying garnier nutrisse pre lightner, taking a couple inch wide section of hair (but a tiny section, if you get me) and mixing half of the developer in so i didnt kill my hair and leaving it on for about 40 mins. it lifted my hair a ton but left it quite yellow, but i've dyed over it a bright magenta (stargazer) and its completely taken to my hair, and the colour has actually lasted amazingly well! I used the pink maybe 3 weeks ago and it hasn't faded at all! | |

| 3 weeks! whoah! i do the underneath of my hair directions pink flamingo and after a couple of times like a week or two weeks max and its washed out , im re doing it tomorrow and my friends been told a little bit of bleach mixed in with lighten the color a little but make it last longer, im also considering leaving it in for a couple of hours because ive heard that helps when putting in a putty type color! |

| Hey Ava, glad to hear it went well! Bleaching is preety scary isn't it? haha. Glad to hear the pink had last well - i've heard good things about stargazer dyes.
Fi, I would really never recommend mixing a semi colour with a lightener, it's too umpredictable, you're best off leaving directions in and leaving it overnight and not washing it as much - or try another brand like stargazer.

| Haha yeah it's terrifying! I left the mixed bleach bottle out in my kitchen to go in the bin and half an hour later it exploded everywhere lol! | |
