| Orite, on behalf of my Dad:
He has a cracked finger nail. It's like this little crack that goes from the top of his nail down a bit.
He had it for a while and it was annoying him and not healing so he bought this clear strengthening nail varnish which he applies every so often but it's not helping.
He's thinking about going up to the beautician up the road to ask her about it but I thought I'd ask you lot if there's anything you know which could help.

| I think if its cracked he has to wait till it grows out... What I do is, I put a tiny strip of scotch tape over it (not too much, cause the nail cant breathe under it) and go over it with clear polish... that keeps it from cracking more...
but otherwise, I donĀ“t know |

| thats the thing, he's had it for months and i think his nail has grown but it just keeps cracking.
he says its grown, and then he's cut it and it just continually splits down the same line.

| I have a crack through my second toe nail, and it's been there as long as I can remember, so I'd be interested to know about this as well. | |

| I think a visit to the doctor might be a good idea. Nails often show problems that you can't see in other parts of our body. Could be low calcium, iron deficiency....anything, really. | |

| :-D Poor guy indeed...
Well, I talked to my dad (who is a biologist) and he said that cracked nails are often a sign of insufficient calcium. What helps (aside from drinking more milk, obviously :-)) is taking calcium in form of pills, or Zinc and Biotine, also in pills. Gelatin helps aswell, but might not be "strong" enough.
Are your dads hands exposed to a lot of water or chemicals? If so, it would be good to moisturize the hands and nails a lot, with a water-free cream
hope that makes sense... say hello to your dad!! :-D |

| right.. i have heard that gelatin is a good friend for cracked nails! i should try it
today i saw this and remember you kiki (actually.. your dad's nails =P ) i was looking for my nails' calcium and remember i had this Maybelline's Express manicure restructuring cement
It says: "nail treatment to help strengthen the nail. rapairs the smooth surface of the nail" The girl at Beauty Center suggested me to use it daily
maybe it can help him =) | |
