| So I really need a new author or book to read. But I'm way too impatient to just go to the bookstore and read the backs of a bunch of books. Anyone have any suggestions?
What I like...mostly horror. I have most of Stephen Kings books (hes my favorite) except for the Gunslinger series, I just can't get into it. I've read some Dean Koontz books and enjoyed them, but found his more recent books seem to be written with a formula which annoys me. I tried reading some John Saul books but have come to the conclusion that hes just a hack. I also like biorgaphy typr books, and books like Memoirs of a Geisha (that was a good one)
Anyways, help... | |

| I'd love to help, but most of what I read is fantasy. Umm, since you're stressed, you could maybe look into a Terry Pratchett? He's usually a really good read when stressed, because his books are funny. Hogfather would suit the season. | |

| When I was younger I loved Stephen King, but I liked James Herbert better..can't stand either of them now..
Chinse Cinderella is a bit like memoirs of a geisha..can't remember who its by thought
But yeh, I'd recomment Terry Pratchett too. Cause he's amazing. | |

| Niel Gaiman is the BOMB, and so is Terry Pratchett. I have all their books, and yoo folks have amazing taste. ANYWAY,
Not very many people know that "I am Legend" started out as a book by Richard Matheson. I read it recently, and it is a great, much better than the movie, as all books are. Another good horror-type would be anything by Ray Bradbury, Specifically The Martian Chronicles. Anthem by Ayn Rand is one of the classics, it's about a postapocolyptic future.
"Smoke and Mirrors" Is a short story collection by Gaiman, and is mainly horror. They are all VERY well done. Here's a short story by him in 100 words.
Nicholas Was…
Older than sin, and his beard could grow no whiter. He wanted to die.
The dwarfish natives of the Arctic caverns did not speak his language, but conversed in their own, twittering tongue, conducted incomprehensible rituals, when they were not actually working in the factories.
Once very year they forced him, sobbing & protesting, into Endless Night. During the journey he would stand near every child in the world, leave one of the dwarves’ invisible gifts by its bedside. The children slept, frozen into time.
He envied Prometheus and Loki, Sisyphus and Judas. His punishment was harsher.
Ho.
Ho.
Ho. |
