| Subject: my hair won't hold a curl! Sun Nov 22, 2009 2:45 pm | |
| So, i recently got my hair cut. my hair texture is... indescribable. It is so bad. If I let it air-dry, it is puffy and frizzy and slightly wavy/curly, but never in a way that is workable. Also, it is very fine. All my life I have been blow-drying it and straightening it, so I thought maybe I could try to embrace it and wear it curly. my hairstylist cut it with a lot of choppy layers and it looks AMAZING when I curl it with my straightening iron. However, no matter what the weather, the curls fall out almost immediately! Right now, my hair routine looks like this: volumizing shampoo and conditioner every other day; volumizing/hold gel while wet; blow-dry with a large round brush, curling the ends under; use straightening iron to put curls in top layers; then hairspray. so, right now i have no pics of it the way it looks right after i curl it, but here is a pic from last night, after it had mostly fallen out. sorry the pic is a little ridic, it is the only one i have! what can i doooooo? what products should i use? halp! | |

| garnier extra curls mousse works to an extent. the only thing is that you have to almost dry your hair for it to keep the curl. so i give it a quick going over with a hair dryer until it's juuuust barely damp, then i use the mousse. and it'll probably work better for you because my hair is extreeeemely thick in the back (some of the curls are just barely loose waves), but on the sides it looks fine. it's worth a try. | |

| The only think i can think of is a strong hold mousse before you blowdry, and a strong hairspray after. Also, try making sure your hair is totally dry before you curl it. and when you curl using a flat iron, when you've pulled the iron through, when you are right at the bottom, curl the hair up around the iron. this helps the curl stay in a bit as well!!
I can't think of much more. sometimes using a soft brush and back combing it a bit after you've put the curl in can help it stay... i can't think of much more. some hair dosen't adjust too well. and sometimes freshly washed and blowdried hair won't hold as well, so maybe if you wash your hair at night, and maybe scrunch dru it, then try put the curls in they might last longer? | |
