My half-completed pirate jacket Empty
PostSubject: My half-completed pirate jacket   My half-completed pirate jacket EmptyTue Sep 30, 2008 2:44 pm

Yay! So I went to dad's on Sunday, and knew I'd be bored stiff if I didn't bring something to do. So, after about two hours of he and Katie watching TV, I hauled out my fabric and the pattern I used for the jacket shape and started snipping. I hated the sleeves the pattern had(just say no to two-piece sleeves!) so I drafted my own on some muslin before cutting into my good fabric. I then danced around because my first attempt fit the arm hole perfectly, and then it was time to shape the sleeves. This will all be lined in a wine-red lining, and the sleeves will fold back over my hands and fasten at the top with an antique-looking button. I didn't much pay attention when I was cutting, but the lines actually match up in about half of the jacket, including the front. How cool!

If you look kinda carefully, you can see the necklace is actually the heart pendant I bought from Jessie!

That is going to be awesome! Will it lace up? I love the sleeves, and yes 2 peice sleeves are stupid, and honestly why do they have to be 2 peices in the first place?

And awww....I feel special..

I was thinking it'll have a clasp closure if any, but I love the lacing idea! Currently it's residing in the bolero state. And you should feel special, I wear that necklace pretty much daily!

I have a silver one somewhere around here that I had gotten intending to make a cloak, but it might be just the thing this jacket needs. Smile

Aw, thanks Kayla! I kinda wanted it to go over the black corset that I still have to make.

Kate, do you think our to-be-made lists will ever get smaller instead of bigger?

I thought you'd approve! I got the pack with two of them, and semi-matching buttons that have little coats of arms and I think I got the ones that say 'honor.' Which is hilarious, considering it's a pirate jacket. Smile

I love those kinds of clasps! I made a coat for second year fashion with 4 sets, which were kinda similar to those. Ahhhh, jackets, something I vow never to do again!

Well, the one I made for school was more like a coat, and it had 24 peices, because we were being graded on different elements the pattern had to be perfect, so I had to trace out the 24 peices with 3/8" S.A, them all again for interfacing with 1/4" S.A, then again for lining with 1/2" S.A. I think the pattern took me maybe 10 hours to trace out. It was evil!
