SPF and Allergies to Sunscreen
CBC Sunscreen Article
Another little tidbit I've seen while browsing: A lot of the higher SPFs in Canada (50-70) offer more UVA protection than the lower SPFs. So maybe that's why they can say SPF 70.

| "Protecting against UVB According to The Skin Cancer Foundation, most sunblocks with an SPF of 15 or higher do an excellent job of protecting against UVB.
SPF is a measure of a sunblock’s ability to prevent UVB from damaging the skin and if your skin burns after 20 minutes under the sun, using an SPF 15 sunblock will protect your skin for 15 times longer, hence providing protection of up to 300 minutes or five hours when you apply enough. Another way to look at it is in terms of percentages. When applied properly, an SPF 15 filters out 93 percent of UVB, SPF 30 filters 97 percent and SPF 50 filters 98 percent."
"A lot of us are probably under the impression that the higher the Sun Protection Factor or SPF of a sunblock, the better the protection. In theory, that is suppose to be so but in reality, studies have shown that products with a SPF over 50 do not provide any significantly better protection than one over 30. "
"2. Is a sunscreen with higher SPF better? I have addressed this before and indicated that studies have shown that products with a SPF over 50 do not provide any significantly better protection than one over 30 because when applied properly, an SPF 15 filters out 93 percent of UVB, SPF 30 filters 97 percent and SPF 50 filters 98 percent. Thus for daily usage when you do come into contact with some amount of sun exposure, an SPF 30 formula is good enough.
However, there is an advantage of picking a higher SPF sunscreen because most people are likely getting a significantly lower SPF level because they’re usually not applying enough (see next tip for application amount). But please note that a 15 SPF facial moisturizer plus a 15 SPF facial sunscreen does not equal 30 SPF. It’s still just 15 SPF." |

| Coppertone, Neutrogena, and Banana Boat, have been the poorest protectors, and also contain harmful chemicals. (I just heard that on the news, I'll listen up, and post what/why & stuff) | |

| Neutrogena is safe, according to these folks - as well as Banana Boat. I guess.
But then...there's this and this.
Even my own brand, FOTE - here. I haven't had any problems with it, though. Oh well.
