Tunic and Kilt! Empty
PostSubject: Tunic and Kilt!   Tunic and Kilt! EmptySun May 11, 2008 9:37 pm

Well, I haven't used a sewing machine in many years (over a decade, I think), so I got to really test it out tonight. I made a tunic! Without a pattern! It actually looks awesome.

It's a 100% gauze cotton in black, I did a key-hole neckline (which I'm going to blanket stitch around in green), and trimmed the bottom of the sleeves in plaid to match the kilt. Smile It is long enough to go below Grant's bum. It took a total of 3 hours to make. I still need to hem the sleeves, the bottom and do the neckline.

The plaid isn't really "made" by me. It's just 5 yards of tartan wool, pleated and belted. I think I need to cut another yard off to make the top more manageable.

And here's Rackham helping me cut the plaid:

Isn't it wonderful when the supervisors show up to help?

Very true!

Here are pics of the totally completed tunic (complete with Rackham hair, since he insisted on helping me hand sew the hems):
