So, I bought myself a Knifty Knitter. For those who have NO IDEA what that is, here is what I have:

Loomy Goodness!!!! Kkppompomweb

I don't have the red thing (I think that's a stitch counter or something), but I DO have the purple thing. It's actually called a Knitting Board or Knitting Rake, but is also called a loom.

With a loom, you can do ANYTHING anyone can do with a crochet hook or knitting needles. The difference is that it's actually quicker to use (with practice), and you don't drop stitches. Yay! I also found it SO MUCH easier to learn to use.

So, after learning various stitches, casting on, and binding off, I decided on my first project--a wide scarf for me! I'm always cold, and scarves are just NEVER wide enough or thick enough. I made it with lovely black and white variegated yarn that is thick and soft.

Here it is:

Now I'm working on a scarf that is in the Ladder Stitch, and it looks really cool. Smile I'm enjoying this WAY too much...LOL. Wink

OH--and I now have a Looming Blog! Click HERE to see it. Smile

You should! That scarf took me about 3 hours to do (I'm a little slower because my hand's messed up). My friend can do a scarf in an hour or so. Smile

Scarf #2:

I did a Ladder Stitch. You can't really see it, but looks almost like the vertebrae of a spine. Very cool. I added tassels to the ends.

That looks awesome!
Although I've been corrupted by knitting machines, I do alot of knitting at work. One cardigan in less than an hour if you can believe it.
Now if only I could afford one!

Knitting machines look soooo cool. They seem to be the same idea as a long loom, but faster (obviously....LOL).

You can do ANYTHING with the looms. I suggest having both a round loom and a long loom (round are good for socks, hats, leg warmers, etc; while long are good for scarves, blankets, dish cloths, etc).

If you check out my blog at http://www.aelwynsloom.blogspot.com I have TONS of looming resources on the left hand side.

You can also buy books about looming, which I plan to do soon as well! Smile

My mom's a crochet and knit fiend as well. She can pretty much do anything (she even makes her own patterns and the such). One time, she made me this AWESOME crochet dress. It was super long, and fit like a glove. It was almost a fishnet style, so I had to wear a long slip underneath. It got SO MANY compliments. I wish I still had it. Sad

Anyhow, she always wanted to teach my sister or I to knit or crochet. With Shannon being a lefty, it was REALLY difficult, and she gave up. And I just couldn't get the stitches to work right (with my messed up right hand). So now, I CAN knit! Wink

Oh....and here's my latest looming piece. Just finished it 15 minutes ago.

Should be in the knitting section. My purple loom was $10.00. Well worth the small price, I think! Smile

You'd probably be turning them out like a mad woman with a loom! It takes me about an hour-2 hours to make a scarf right now. Apparently the round looms are much quicker (I guess since the pegs are closer together or something).

I think one of the 15 foot scarves would take a while longer than two hours, but I've been working on it on and off for a few months now, so anything faster than that is good in my book!

Yeah, it would DEFINITELY take less than a few months. Especially once you get used to it, you can get SUPER fast. I would definitely try the loom.

Baby blanket!

This is for Grant's cousin who is having a baby. The nursery is light purple, and the crib and change table are black. So I decided to do a nice mixture of purple and blue for the afghan for it (they don't want to know the sex until it's born).

First panel:

And here's a baby hat I made, as well. I love the little pompom on it!

shauna, would there be any way you could take some close up photos of your loom? or possibly post some sizes...like the overall length and stuff? i found a "make your own" type thing in a craft book i have but the instructions are for making rugs! so i was wondering what sizes yours is so i could perhaps make my own, seeing as i cant find one!
