| Okay, so I watched eternal sunshine of the spotless mind last night, and i love kate's hair through out the movie. my favorite is this color: Any tips on what would be the best dye brand for this color, the kind of bleach to buy and how to maintain it's vibrancy for as long as possible? i'm probably going to dye it in a month or so, once this color really starts to fade. i've also heard that if you rinse your hair in 1 part water 1 part white vinegar it will keep the color longer, is that true? thanks in advance girlies! | |

| Ive never tried the vinigar thing but I have heard some people mix about a teaspoon of the dye into their shampoo and it helps to make the color last longer. Just make sure its a semi permanent color. Don't try mixing in anything that has bleach in it. I think you gotta realize as well that with a crazy color you will need to do touch-ups it just won't stay that vibrant until it grows out. But anyway what I do is use Blondissima to bleach out my hair then add the color. The color usually needs to be touched up twice as much as the roots, that is if you don't mind a quarter inch of roots showing (which I don't) Usually I only re-bleach the roots to keep my hair in ok condition. You only have to re-bleach all of it if you want to do a completly different color. As for brand I would definately reccomend Special Effects. They last a million times longer than other brands, so you don't have to go crazy re-dying your hair every week or so. And I'm pretty sure they have like 6 different reds. | |

| Oh, and I would say "Cherry Bomb" is probably closest to that color. | |

| definitely! and for touch ups, do you mean redying? sorry, im kinda dumb.
and can you dye your hair directly after bleaching, or (i assume this is better) wait a day or two before dying?

| When I said touchups I meant just touching up the red because it tends to fade a bit after a while. And yes, I color my hair right after I bleach it. I just leave the conditioner off and blow dry it, because the "color" works better on dry hair. At this point it feels really dry, but anyway, then I add the color and after I rinse the dye off then I condition the whole thing. Special effects is a vegatable based dye so it won't ruin your hair, its actually kinda conditioning, although I would highly reccomend still putting the Blondissima conditioner in. As long as you take really good care of your hair afterwards it will stay in good condition. I would reccomend using a stronger conditioner for colored hair and avoid blow drying it or brushing it when its wet. And don't use shampoos like Head and Shoulders, baby shampoo or Herbal Essences (the regular kind) because they will actually make the color fade alot faster. | |

| pinkhaired, i dunno if you can help me..i just wanted to see if i could find out here before i phone my hairdresser so i could say to my mum; have you ever bleached out red/pink? like i get my hair bleached and its blonde but im having cravings for red hair. have you ever gone from red to blonde? cos my mums concerned about messing up all the bleaching she paid for but if its relatively easy to get back to blonde... i have no idea if you'd even know but i thought i'd ask | |

| Kat, judging by your avatar, you have pretty dark hair.
So don't get all freaked out and "ONOZ!!!!!!" after you bleach your hair.
More than likely, it won't be the pale blonde/platinum shade that is best for dying your hair awesome colors.
It'll probably turn out blonde at the roots and gingery orange throughout the rest.
After you bleach you hair, you should tone it to get rid of as much of the orange as you can.
Good luck!

| My hair is quite dark and the Blondissima makes it a banana yellow color, but if you do end up a little orange it doesn't really matter if your'e going red because the red is darker than the orange and there is orange in red so it won't really affect the color. I used to always just do red over orange hair before I discovered Blondissima.
And Kiki, I have re-bleached my whole head and got almost all of the red out. The thing is though, I find the longer I color my hair the more permanent it becomes. Having had pink hair (or similar colors) for several years now the color won't come out as easily at the ends. I have heard about a color corrector thats supposed to take out dye, and Special Effects is not a permanent dye so that kind of thing should work. If your hairdresser dyes your hair she probably has better access to good products. Personally I would just call and ask, but I really can't see it permanently wrecking your hair or anything.

| Thanks girlies. And I figured it would turn that orange color I've heard about, so no "OMGZORZ" from me.
Unfortunately, at the moment, I'm dirt poor. I should get some money to spend in October, so I feel like it's all going to be spent on hair dye and piercings. lol.

| thankies :] ill see if i can call. i wanna go...not as bright as what Kat posted but I think a darkish bright red, like the ones Shauna posted from sallys would be cute. I miss my red hair like crazy at the moment and never got to go as bright as i wanted. | |

| I have that colour of hair at the moment. I bleached it with Jerome Russel powder stuff from Boots which turned it an orangey yellow colour.
then used the Crazy Colour dye from Sallys called "Flame". And I've put a teaspoon of Directions "Pillerbox Red" into baby shampoo to keep it red..
I might dye it brown again though..I just moved to a new city and started uni and I'm feeling quite out of place..
