| you know how all those indie/scene kids have quite thick, textured hair that looks messy in a good way?
how do you get that?
i have quite fine hair, and i'm not looking to go full on emo - just want to add a little more texture to my hair as its got an unstructures messy cut which just looks a bit 'blah' right now.
is it just a case of lots of hairspray and backcombing?

| They make texturizing spray that works pretty well, I think. Try Garnier Fructis..? | |

| ooh! i had exactly the same problem that you do when i had haircuts like that. my hair is really fine- when its wet it looks like i have bald spots!!! so when i would get my hair cut, the stylist always recommended a styling paste, sorta like this:
http://www.folica.com/Redken_Rewind_P_d2138.html
i cant remember what brand i used, but you get the idea
the only problem with a product like that is the fact that if you dont do it right, it will weigh down your hair and make it look really greasy

| I'd say using alot of teasing (check out sloove on LJ's teasing tute) and texturizing products you could totally get it, it really is the easiest way, and try sleeping with a few different sized plaits in your hair, so in the morning they're all wavy. | |

| my hair is quite think acutally, so might not be muchhelp here, but try using no conditioner when you wash it and not comb your hair before blowdrying (might work even better for you than for me if you have fine hair, because mine ends up in a huuuge puffy mess) lol i also like volume styling mousse, cant recommend any brands tho but ive tried several and they all worked well |

| Blowdry without combing the roots if you can, and make sure to get your fingers right in close to your scalp to give it more volume there. Definitely go for the back combing (tail combs get the best results), you can get good sparsely bristled combs like this that work wonders for smoothing the top layer but leaving the volume. Make sure to invest in a really strong hold hair spray too! | |

| thanks for all the ideas ladies! i was waiting till i went out to the shops before replying . i was a bit lost with all the styling products and eventually just decided to buy one by Umberto Giannini called Defined Body Texturizing Lotion (sounds the thing right?!) and a comb to hopefully oomph it up! I'm excited to try it all out tomorrow... might even dust off my diffuser! | |

| lotion might weigh it down.
I'm really lazy with my hair, despite being a hairdresser ahahaha, but as i have fine hair, i often buy superdrug own brand mousse, apply it to my roots when my hair's wet, and then blow dry my hair upside down, super oomph hair!
