| Yay we're gunna learn to knit in textiles before our teddy project! We're going to do scarves. I'm going to the Pavillions with Claire today to get some funky wool. I'm going to do dark purple and sparkly black diagonal stripes ^__^ Yay!
Do any of you knit?? If so is it hard to do diagonal stripes?

| I knit some, I learned because of an English literature project in high school. We were reading a Tale of Two Cities, and holding a court trial. I've never done diagonal stripes, though.. you might be trying to make yourself crazy with that one. | |

| I've tried to learn to knit, and all I've ever done is a long string...LOL. Same with crochet. I'm just retarded with it. Now my mom can knit awesome shit, and made me a gigantically long rainbow scarf that I LOOOVE (and everyone calls it my Gay Pride Potter Scarf...LOL). So yeah. Make a loooong rainbow scarf. | |

| I knit, diagonal stripes aren't too hard. Just a case of being able to swap over your colours neatly (which take a bit of practise), and then counting your stitches so you know when to change each time. You can do it in your head or with a stitch counter depending how confident you are feeling. It'll probably take a bit of working up to though, you can knit a scarf in about 3 hours so practising doesn't take to long.
I taught myself to knit with a book called 'Stitch n Bitch' which is really good and worth a look!

| Yup heard of that! Can't escape it on Craftster forums. Or the t-shirt recon books. I think I might just to regular stripes cus I'm a total beginner and wont have enough concentration at school to count stitches.. but with regular stripes I only have to count rows ee! Purple and black scarves just rock I found a really nice purple and a black with silvery threads going through it. There was a real SPARKLY one too at the wool stall but it was fuzzy and that's hard to use as a beginner Oh question for beb82! Is it ok to knit with one wool thicker than the other? Should I just do looser stitches when using the thinner wool? | |

| Ohh I think she means cus you can't see any different sized stitches or mistakes. But I'm still learning how to actually DO a stitch so I wouldn't be able to see what I was doing haha. Too late to buy more anyway, I spent all my monies that day | |

| You can't see mistakes with fluffy wool, but also you can knit up a scarf way faster because you can use huge needles. And yay Stitch n Bitch, my boss has patterns in all 3 of those books. | |

| Yeah big fluffy wool is dead easy. You can use the same size stitch and needle for both, actually it'd make a nice contrast in the stripes I think... just my opinion, plus it'd be easier for you. Trying to make the stitches looser would be hard as you'd struggle to match it up for it stitch imo ) | |

| Soo We started today and I've decided I'll be saving my good wool for when I'm really good at it. At the moment it's still a little fiddly. I tried it out again when I got home with a lil tiny bit of my purple wool and it's SO fiddly cus its like 3 woolen strands in the whole strand of wool and they come apart quite easily. At school it was pretty simple though! ^__^ | |

| Google knitting videos, I remember watching these videos that showed how to do *insert knitting technique here* and it has both kinds of knitting (continental and.. the other one). It's awesome.
Hmm DON'T get really thin needles. I say get medium sized ones. I'd go get my needles and tell you what number but I don't know where they are..
On the wool it tells you what size needles it'll fit so definitely follow that, makes it much easier. With the size needles I'm thinking of, you'd need chunky wool.
Learn casting on, then knitting, then purling (which looks flat, it's like knitting but from the other side), then casting off.
That's all I can think of.. I think I've come a long way since I made this topic!
